Partnerships for Purpose | Ethical Supply Chain Program

The Family-Friendly Factory program addresses childcare as the #1 reason workers leave manufacturing jobs, particularly targeting the “left behind children” phenomenon in China. The partnership brings together toy industry funders (the LEGO Group, Spin Master, and others.), and benefits from the expert guidance of UNICEF, with support of local governments for implementation. Across 78 childcare spaces in 74 factories, worker turnover dropped dramatically – from 19.7% to 5.1% in one factory, saving US$450,000, and from 26% to 2.3% in another, saving US$621,000. The program supports 223 teachers and carers while 93% of workers cite it as a reason to continue working.
