Australian engineering and manufacturing company created the Young Starters program – a paid, 6-month rotational workplace initiative that prioritises opportunity over experience. Targeting young people with little to no prior experience, particularly women, from lower-income households or limited formal education, participants rotate through engineering, logistics, fabrication, and admin with dedicated mentoring. Across two intakes, 20 participants engaged (14 females, 4 males), with 12 moving into full-time roles, 2 into part-time positions, and 5 apprenticeships secured. The program provides practical support including certifications, transport assistance (funded driving lessons, $10k novated leases), and career development.
